Council wishes students well in HSC

02/10/2020

Georges River Councillor Lou Konjarski spoke at the Council Meeting on Monday 28 September 2020 to wish Year 12 students in the Georges River area good luck and success in the upcoming Higher School Certificate (HSC) exams.

17 schools within the Georges River local government area will have students participating in the upcoming 2020 HSC exams, which are scheduled to commence on Tuesday 20 October 2020.

“COVID has had a pretty dramatic effect on our kid’s education over the last six to eight months and I wanted to say good luck to all the students sitting for their HSC, namely from the Georges River College in Oatley and in particular my two daughters Stephanie and Josephine, who are sitting their HSC,” said Councillor Konjarski.

“I would also like to wish good luck to Councillor Con Hindi’s daughter Rebecca who will be sitting her HSC this year as well, and say thank you to all the teachers, particularly Councillor Grekas, who teaches at Georges River College Oatley,” he added.

At its meeting in March this year, the NSW Education Standards Authority Board confirmed that the HSC would be going ahead in 2020, along with a commitment to providing clear and regular advice to the community about the HSC throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.
NSW Minister for Education Sarah Mitchell announced in September that the NSW Government is continuing to increase its wellbeing support to students sitting their HSC during the pandemic.

"With the HSC written exams starting on 20 October, we are continuing to remind students to look after their mental health, recognise their resilience and reduce anxiety around the HSC, as part of the Stay Healthy HSC campaign,” Ms Mitchell said.

The student-focused initiative features a new hub and social initiatives to connect students, schools, and families with information to help them look after their wellbeing. Resources for students and parents can be found at: https://education.nsw.gov.au/stay-healthy-hsc
