Council to investigate the installation of electronic scoreboards at local grounds

08/08/2019

Georges River Council will pursue the installation of electronic scoreboards at newly constructed sports amenities buildings across the local area, following a Motion from Deputy Mayor Sam Elmir which was prompted by a suggestion from a community member.

The motion, which was supported at the Council Meeting on Monday 22 July 2019, will now see Council investigate the suitability of electronic scoreboards at various sporting fields and facilities in the area.

Deputy Mayor Elmir said the report will look at the associated costs of installing the scoreboards and identify potential funding sources, such as the Councillors’ Ward Fund.

“Installation of scoreboards would be explored in consultation with local sporting and recreational groups throughout the local government area,” said Deputy Mayor Elmir.

“Council encourages sporting clubs to apply for the latest round of Stronger Communities funding, which could assist with upgrades including new scoreboards, seating, new turf, or fit-out of change rooms, to name just a few ideas.

“The installation of scoreboards would deliver numerous benefits that include their flexibility to be used for a multitude of sporting and community applications.

“The scoreboards have the potential to create a more engaging viewing experience for attendees at games and it’s hoped they would make Council’s grounds more favourable to high-level sporting teams and regional sporting matches.

“This resolution follows Council’s commitment to install electronic scoreboards at Hurstville Oval and Harold Fraser Oval as part of the construction of the new pavilions at these premium facilities,” added Deputy Mayor Elmir.

Other locations where electronic scoreboards may be considered include Peakhurst Park, Poulton Park, Penshurst Sporting Hub and major sporting fields such as
Charles Pirie Reserve.
