Council reopens customer service centres and parking enforcement activities to resume

20/05/2020

Following the recent announcement from the NSW government regarding the easing of COVID-19 restrictions, Georges River Council has reopened its customer service centre in Hurstville today, Wednesday 20 May 2020 and will reopen the service centre in Kogarah Library from Monday 25 May 2020. Georges River Libraries and the Hurstville Museum & Gallery remain closed.

Council will enforce a limit of 10 customers in the buildings at any one time and visitors will be required to adhere to strict physical distancing protocol, and maintain good hygiene.

Mayor of Georges River Council Kevin Greene expressed thanks to the community, and urged residents to continue to work together to overcome challenges brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“I am delighted to see that we are starting to see some light at the end of the tunnel after a very challenging few months, and as we move towards a return to normality, it is just as critical as ever to ensure we remain vigilant,” said Mayor Greene.

“If visiting one of Council’s customer service centres, I implore you to keep a distance of at least 1.5 metres from other customers and Council staff, and to wash your hands before and after your visit.

“Most importantly, stay home if you are unwell, residents can access a variety of Council services from the comfort of their homes, either online, on email or by phone.

“The easing of restrictions is thanks to the incredible work of the community in reducing the number of cases of COVID-19, by adhering to physical distancing directives.

“I would like to express my sincere thanks to you all for this. We all have a part to play in keeping the curve flat, so please stay safe and be kind to one another, because we are all in this together,” added Mayor Greene.

Community members are not required to visit Council’s customer service centres to carry out a transaction or access information, and can instead contact Council’s customer service call centre on 9330 6400 or email mail@georgesriver.nsw.gov.au for assistance.

The service centre is well equipped to respond to a wide range of service requests and provide information on all of Council’s services and programs. A drop box located at the front of the Hurstville customer service centre enables residents to lodge documents without entering the building.

Residents can also access Council services online at www.georgesriver.nsw.gov.au, including rate payments, live webchat, service request lodgement, and information on waste services. For quick, location-based information on Council services and news, download the Georges River Council app via Google Play or the App Store.

With the return of many people to work in the office, Council will also resume regular parking enforcement activities from Monday 25 May 2020, which had previously been relaxed. For information on Georges River Council, visit www.georgesriver.nsw.gov.au or call 9330 6400
