Council receives funding to help protect local flying foxes

Georges River Council has received $9,830 in grant funding for the preparation of a Management Plan for the flying fox camp in Myles Dunphy Reserve, Oatley.

The Plan will ensure that long-term conservation of the camp’s vulnerable grey-headed flying foxes is prioritised, and will balance the needs of the surrounding community and public safety while protecting and supporting the biodiversity within Myles Dunphy Reserve.

The camp’s adaptability to the impacts of increased heat will be examined as a priority in the Plan and recommendations will be made to mitigate future impacts. The grant funding is part of the NSW Department of Planning, Industry and Environment’s Flying Fox Grants Program 2020.

Council will carry out community consultation regarding the draft Plan upon its completion, before submitting the final draft to Council for adoption.
