Council receives award for reporting excellence

Georges River Council’s 2017-18 Annual Report has received a Bronze Award at the 2019 Australasian Reporting Awards (ARA) in Melbourne.

The awards are open to companies in the Asia-Pacific region across a range of sectors that prepare annual reports, providing an opportunity for them to receive recognition for reporting excellence as well as critical feedback from an independent body of industry experts.

Mayor of Georges River Council Kevin Greene said this is the first time Council has entered the ARA awards, and to come away with a Bronze Award is an outstanding result, especially given the level of scrutiny in which reports are judged by the ARA Committee.

“The award is a great achievement and reflects positively on Council’s efforts to continually improve on its reporting by providing the community with detailed, accurate and transparent information through its annual reporting,” added Mayor Greene.

“We entered the ARA as a means of benchmarking our reporting at Council against some of the best organisations across the Asia-Pacific region.

“This gives us the opportunity to build on our reporting, ensuring the information is detailed and well-structured, clearly outlining Council’s activities, successes and areas for improvement in a transparent way.

“The award win is a testament to the efforts of our dedicated Council staff, and I’d like to say a big thank you to all those involved in the preparation of the 2017-18 Annual Report.

“This award shows that the community can have confidence in Council’s reporting, with the knowledge that it has met the strict criteria of an independent panel of experts,” said Mayor Greene.
