Council offers new and improved services for development advice

Georges River Council has expanded its Development Advisory Service (DAS), to help streamline the process and make it easier for community members and building professionals to access planning and development advice. 

Mayor of Georges River Council Kevin Greene said improvements include the creation of a dedicated DAS Team, two new free services, as well as improvements to existing services to offer customers greater assistance throughout the Development Application process. 

“It was most pleasing that 29 local residents recently attended our first quarterly Development Application (DA) information sessions for applicants and home owners looking to develop their property,” Mayor Greene said.  

“The face-to-face information sessions are a great new service offered by Council to help simplify the process of obtaining development approvals.” 

The DAS Team offers five major services to assist with navigating through the development approval process, with new fees and services commencing on 1 July 2019. 
 
Council’s DAS Services 
 
1. Duty Planner Service (free): This service is the recommended first step for all general enquiries about planning and development. Customers can use this service to find out whether approval for their development is required and which planning controls apply. 
 
2. NEW Development Information Sessions (free): Council’s new quarterly information sessions are available for the community members and building professionals looking to develop their property in the Georges River area.  
 
3. NEW DA Lodgement Service (free): This service is great for customers who are ready to lodge their Development Application. This service will help customers avoid unnecessary delays after lodgement caused by incomplete applications. 
 
4. Pre-Lodgement Advisory Service (fee based): This service is suitable for customers seeking more detailed advice than that offered in the Duty Planner Service. Prices for residential developments start from $210.00 and $250.00 for non-residential developments. The fee structure is now tailored to customers’ individual needs, offering more affordable prices for a range of development types. 
 
5. Complying Development Consultation Service (fee based): Customers can find out if their development qualifies for the state-wide 10 day fast-track approval process known as ‘Complying Development’. The pre-lodgement fee costs $330, which has been reduced from $550. This fee is deducted from the Complying Development Application Fee if customers lodge their CDC Application with Georges River Council.
