Council introduces family-friendly Night Market series to Georges River community

08/03/2018

Georges River Council is pleased to announce its inaugural Night Market series, two family-friendly events in March featuring live music, entertainment, market stalls and food vendors.

The first night market will take place in Kogarah on Friday 16 March. Kogarah Town Square will be transformed into a charming evening bazaar featuring food and market stalls, twinkling string lights and a characterful vintage caravan as the entertainment stage.

Live entertainment will include Queen Porter Stomp, a wicked mix of ukulele, lush vocals, banjo, horns and drums in the traditions of New Orleans finest music; The Mango Balloon, an intriguing musical concoction where tango meets spaghetti western; and an electric traditional Hellenic dance performance.

On Friday 23 March, MacMahon Street, Hurstville will be closed-off to create the next atmospheric Night Market venue. Along with a selection of market stalls and food vendors, there will be free movie screenings, live music, and activities for the young and young at heart.

Movie screenings will take place at the Civic Theatre, with Pete’s Dragon showing at 5.00pm, followed by Guardians of the Galaxy 2 at 7.30pm.

The vintage caravan will also return to the Night Market series, hosting an exciting line-up of entertainers, including crowd-favourites, The Hot Potato Band, with more acts to be announced soon.

Additionally, there will be a free colourful circus playground, where kids and adults can learn classic circus arts from skilled instructors, such as juggling, stilt walking and unicycle riding.

It is hoped the night markets will encourage people to stay in town centres after work or school and experience a fun community activity.

All Night Market events are smoke-free.
