Council grants $200,000 to community groups through Community Grants Program

Georges River Council has announced the recipients of Round 1 of its Community Grants Program for 2018-2019, with $200,000 in funding awarded to 38 community groups across two categories.
$128,560 was granted to 31 applicants in the Capacity Building category, with grants of up to $10,000 for each community group. The grants will help recipients to deliver community programs and projects, with a focus on initiatives that benefit the most vulnerable communities and build capacity in the community.
The Vibrant Georges River category awarded $71,440 in funding to seven applicants, for grants of up to $25,000 over two years. This category focuses on establishing arts and cultural programs in the Georges River area, which will form part of Council’s new Cultural Strategy, Create Georges River.
Georges River Council Mayor Kevin Greene said that there was significant demand among community groups for the funding and explained that the grants have been awarded to a diverse range of recipients.
“I am very pleased be able to continue to support the vibrant Georges River community through our Community Grants Program, which is designed to facilitate partnerships between Council and the community, to develop projects which have a positive impact on local residents,” said Mayor Greene.
“Council received a total of 49 applications for funding, with funding requests totalling $512,243.00, which indicates the popularity of the Community Grants Program.”
“Through the program, we have been able to support many different groups in our unique community, and fund various initiatives that will provide new ways for people to have positive interactions in the local area.”
“I would like to congratulate each of the community organisations that were successful in Round 1 of Council’s Community Grants program, and I look forward to seeing the many projects come to life.”
Round 2 of the 2018-2019 Community Grants Program will open on Monday 18 February 2019 and close at 5pm on Monday 18 March 2019. To access additional information about this grant round and how to apply, and view the full list of Round 1 grant recipients, visit
