Council grant helps Lugarno FC with essential sporting equipment

Following its successful application through the 2016 Community Grants Program, Lugarno Football Club is now benefiting from a much needed sports equipment upgrade.

Lugarno FC had applied through the 2016 Program for funding to purchase a range of essential sporting equipment for its junior and senior teams.

The Club received $9,930 through the program and used it to purchase new training and match balls, agility poles, and pop-up goal posts through a local business in the Georges River area.

President of Lugarno FC Hagop Tchamkertenian thanked Council for approving the grant application.

"Georges River Council has funded a great initiative which is aimed at increasing participation in sports by members of the local community,” he said.

"When we were notified our application was successful, we were able to divert valuable club resources that would normally have been used for purchasing sporting equipment to other areas such as keeping our registration fees low to increase participation rates by members of the local community in our club,” he added.

Administrator of Georges River Council, John Rayner, said he was pleased to see that the funding was able to significantly benefit the club and its members.

“Council’s Community Grants Program is a fantastic way to support local community groups and organisations,” he said.

“Lugarno FC was just one of 37 groups which received funding through the 2016 Program.” This funding went towards projects which covered areas such as community development, culture and arts development, environment and conservation and sports and recreation.”

“I strongly encourage all local not-for-profit groups within the local area to apply for Council’s 2017 Community Grants Program.”

Applications for the 2017 Georges River Community Grants Program will close on 25 June 2017. For more information about the Program, including how to apply for grants, please visit Council's Community Grants webpage or call 9330 6400.
