Council elects new Deputy Mayor

Councillor Sam Elmir has been elected as the Deputy Mayor of Georges River Council following a Council meeting on Monday 24 September 2018.

Councillor Elmir is a lifelong resident of the local area and was first elected to Kogarah City Council in 2008. He will serve in the position of Deputy Mayor for one year.

Georges River Council Mayor Kevin Greene thanked Councillor Kathryn Landsberry for her service as Deputy Mayor over the past year.

“As a Georges River Councillor, Kathryn has been devoted to representing the community’s interests and working to provide quality facilities and services for our local residents,” said Mayor Greene.

Councillor Elmir also expressed his gratitude to Councillor Landsberry for her contribution while in the role of Deputy Mayor.

“On behalf of my fellow Councillors I would like to thank Kathryn for her support of our community and her unwavering commitment to the betterment of our local government area,” said Councillor Elmir.

“I am honoured to have been elected as Deputy Mayor for the Georges River Area, especially at a time so pivotal for the future direction of the local area.

“Council recently finalised its 10-year Community Strategic Plan in consultation with our community members. This, along with recent funding from the NSW Government, will result in numerous capital works projects, a boost to local sport and recreation facilities and the creation of a Housing Strategy to better meet the needs of our community.”

“It is a great privilege to be able to help lead our community members into an even brighter future for our local area – one which builds on the unique characteristics of the Georges River area to create improved social and economic conditions that all our community members can benefit from.”

“I would like to thank the Councillors for their support in electing me to the position of Deputy Mayor. I sincerely thank each of you for your support and look forward to working together to achieve the best possible outcomes for the community,” Councillor Elmir said.

Georges River Council Standing Committee Representatives and Councillor Delegates for External Committees were also elected at the Council meeting. Councillors will represent the community on these Committees until September 2019.
