Council cancels major summer events and announces COVID-19 Safe Community Events Program

Georges River Council has cancelled its Magic of Christmas, Australia Day and Lunar New Year events for the 2020/21 summer period, due to NSW Public Health Order restrictions on public gatherings as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Council’s Summer Events Program attracts between 8,000 to 45,000 attendees per event and its decision to cancel these events in their traditional format was made to protect the safety of the community, local businesses, event partners and Council staff.

Council has adapted its Summer Events Program to launch the COVID-19 Safe Community Events Program, which will bring a series of free virtual and physical events to the Georges River community from September 2020, through to February 2021.

Events will incorporate a range of COVID-19 safety measures including controlled ticketing systems, hygiene and physical distancing, COVID-19 safety marshals and COVID-19 Safety Plans. Council is in the planning phase for its COVID-19 Safe Community Events Program and will share event details with the community soon.
