Council’s Australia Day Awards nominations closing soon

All members of the Georges River area are encouraged to nominate a local hero for Council’s 2018 Australia Day Awards before nominations close on Friday 24 November.

Georges River Council’s Australia Day Awards present an opportunity for the local community to acknowledge and celebrate individuals who have contributed extensively to the community.

There are three categories available for nominations: Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year and Volunteer of the Year. Council’s 2017 Citizen of the Year Natalia Esdaile-Watts expressed her gratitude for the opportunities which have come her way since receiving the award.

“Being Citizen of the Year has provided me with many opportunities to campaign further against domestic violence and even encouraged me to do things I didn’t think I was capable of.”

“As Citizen of the Year I have raised money for White Ribbon by running in the City2Surf, I have joined the White Ribbon Advisory Committee at Georges River Council and I will be a judge of this year’s Christmas Lights Competition.”

“I have also delivered presentations to Local Area Command Police, local schools and even taken up a course in Community Services with a hope to do more in the years to come.”

“Through the award I’ve realised my potential and cannot wait to serve my community further,” added Ms Esdaile-Watts.

Nominations must outline how the nominee has contributed to the local community in the category for which they are nominated, with a summary of their achievements and why you think they are a positive role model and inspiration to the community.

Winners will be announced at a special event to be held at the Booth Saunders Pavilion at Hurstville Oval on Monday 22 January 2018. A nominee must live in the Georges River Council local government area and must be an Australian Citizen.
