Christmas ice rink brings winter wonderland to summer

16/12/2020

Georges River Council would like to thank the community for the huge response to its magical winter experience – an ice rink in the summer! Due to high demand, extra tickets have been released, but get your skates on if you want some.

Georges River Council Mayor Kevin Greene said that infants, kids, teens and adults have all got their skates on to attend the Christmas Ice Rink at Netstrata Jubilee Stadium in Carlton.

“We’ve been bowled over with the response which has seen almost 1,200 tickets already allocated for the 12 day duration of this fun, icy experience,” said Mayor Greene.

“So far, feedback is that this wonderful, free opportunity gained momentum within the community via word of mouth – the registrations were full within a day of initial promotion!

“After a year of disruption which saw our major events cancelled, our Events team worked hard to come up with COVID-19-safe events that could be offered on a smaller scale throughout the community.

“It’s really lovely to see the kids enjoying themselves so much, and given the popularity of this inaugural Christmas Ice Rink experience, it’s something we’ll be looking at again in future.

“We have to say thank you to the Lions Club of Lugarno who supported our opening day with a sausage sizzle.

“If you miss out on tickets on this occasion, we encourage you to put your name on the waiting list as spots may still open up if there are cancellations.

“For those who were lucky this time, we hope you have lots of fun and more importantly, that you have a fabulous Christmas and Happy New Year,” added Mayor Greene.

The Christmas Ice Rink is a free, ticketed event for the community to ensure compliance with the NSW Public Health Order. Participant numbers will be controlled during each session to ensure physical distancing. There are multiple sessions throughout each day.
