Celebrate Grandparents Festival, 3 October - 16 November 2018


To celebrate the contribution grandparents make to our community, Georges River Council is holding a special Grandparents Festival which will run from 3 October –16 November 2018.

Council will be working with local childcare and aged-care centres on a range of activities to nurture connection between generations.

Grandparents Festival includes a number of events which can be enjoyed by the entire family, including art classes, exercise activities and cultural events suitable for young and old, including:
  • the launch of the sensory garden at Hurstville Community Gardens with a fun chair yoga session and a special nature art class on Sunday 28 October from 10am
  •  the Diwali Festival of Lights with traditional costumes, dance classes and snacks on Wednesday 31 October from 11am at Kingsgrove Community Aid Centre
  • an art session creating a piece inspired by grandchildren at the Hurstville Museum & Gallery from 10am on Monday 12 November.
Council is also encouraging community members to recognise grandparents who live in the Georges River area by emailing a photograph of them and telling us (in a sentence or two) about the contribution they make to family or community.

Grandparents whose photos are emailed through will attend the launch event of Grandparents Festival on Monday 22 October and will be presented with a special certificate of acknowledgement.

Send emails with attached photos to with the name of the grandparent, a phone number and contact email by 5.00pm on Monday 1 October 2018.
