Calls for donations to support families in need

Georges River Council, in partnership with the Lions Club of Oatley, is asking the community to dig deep and donate to help vulnerable local communities and families this festive season.

Georges River Council Mayor Kevin Greene said that this year, COVID-19 has presented further pressures and unprecedented challenges to the most vulnerable members of the community.

“Christmas is traditionally a time of celebration with family and friends, but sadly this isn’t the case for everyone,” said Mayor Greene.

“As we pause to enjoy this festive season, I call on our community to spread Christmas cheer by donating to those less fortunate within our community.

“In previous years, we encouraged the donation of physical gifts, however this year, to ensure the safety of our community, the appeal will be different but no less significant.

“We have partnered with the Lions Club of Oatley to support an online Christmas appeal, and any donations collected will be used to support local families in need.

“This Christmas season in particular, we’re calling upon the generosity of the Georges River community to assist those families who are doing it tough,” added Mayor Greene.

Oatley Lions Club Vice President, Richard Sheahan, said that they are thrilled to be working closely with Georges River Council to raise funds for the vulnerable and needy during the festive season.

“We really hope that people in the Georges River area feel compelled to help out those who aren’t doing so well financially this Christmas,” said Mr Sheahan.

“The true spirit of Christmas is about spreading joy, and enjoying being with family and friends. Let’s hope we can help make that happen for the people in our community who need it most,” he added.
