24/12/2020

St George Business Chamber’s eight-week pilot mentoring program wrapped up on 9 December 2020, which ran as part of Small Business Month in partnership with
Georges River Council.

The St George Business Chamber selected six businesses to work with mentors from The Alternative Board in a combination of one-on-one and group mentoring sessions.

Mentee Amber Zenere from Piccolo Cannoli described a positive experience at the Mentoring Program.  “I found the program very useful and the key takeaway for me was David and Doug from The Alternative Board confirmed that we're on the right track to take Piccolo Cannoli Bar from start-up to scale-up,” said Amber.

“Overall I’m really pleased I had the opportunity to participate in the program and would like to thank Georges River Council, St George Business Chamber, Buy Local and The Alternative Board,” she added.

The St George Business Chamber President Alan Zreik was delighted with the success of the program and said that it aimed to provide a foundation for businesses to bounce back from the COVID-19 pandemic.

“I am very pleased with the feedback from the mentees and wish them much success in their businesses for 2021 and beyond,” said Mr Zreik.

“2020 has been one of the most challenging years in business we have ever faced in living memory and this year more so than ever it is important that our wonderful local community support local business,” he added.

The Mentoring program, which was valued at $2,000, was heavily subsidized by the St George Business Chamber, with the total cost for mentees just $300. Businesses that participated also received a certificate of attendance and a bonus pack of local business vouchers totaling $300 to reinvest into their business.

St George Business Chamber look forward to offering the mentoring program to local businesses again in 2021 with the support of Georges River Council.
