Zoning changes. Building heights. Housing types. Land use. Infrastructure. Help us to plan for the future of our area.

Georges River Council is hosting a series of workshops to gather community feedback which will help inform the preparation of its Local Strategic Planning Statement (LSPS) by July 2019.

General Manager Gail Connolly explained that the LSPS will outline the 20-year vision for land use, special characteristics that contribute to local identity, and how growth and change will be managed into the future.

“One of the main tools to implement the City’s land use vision is the Local Environmental Plan - a legal document that provides controls and guidelines for development, and outlines what can be built, where it can be built, and what activities can occur on land,” said Ms Connolly.

“On average, the population of our local government area is growing by 1,500 people per year, and this growth needs to be aligned with job growth, transport and services.

“This means there is a growing need to address the City’s emerging number of smaller households, to accommodate an increase in our ageing population, and a need for more diverse housing choices.
“It is of vital importance, however, that while we address this shift in housing requirements, we ensure character of our city’s suburbs is protected,” added Ms Connolly.

The LSPS will explore the provision of additional active and passive open space to support the existing population and future population of the City.

“Council is also looking for more creative solutions for the provision of infrastructure in high density areas, such as active and passive recreation options near Kogarah CBD and Kogarah North,” added Ms Connolly.

The LSPS 2040 links to the State Government’s South District Plan and the targets for new dwellings and jobs in the City over the next 20 years.
