Help support women in crisis through art

26/06/2020

Hurstville Museum & Gallery’s current Dragon’s Lair Gallery artist, Soupsue, has generously offered to donate all proceeds from sales of her work Out into the Wild to help support the recently established Georges River women’s crisis accommodation centre.

Currently exhibiting at the Hurstville Museum & Gallery with her Who Stood Here exhibition, Soupsue’s Out into the Wild series consists of 76 images which capture the artist’s reaction to the COVID-19 pandemic, depicting the environmental impacts of discarded personal protective health equipment such as gloves and face masks.

These works from Out into the Wild are available to purchase at only $5.00 each, giving visitors the chance to support a valuable cause whilst also collecting a unique piece of history.

Soupsue is a trained visual artist who works in mixed media across many forms including, but not limited to, writing, installation, performance and works on paper.

She also creates digital and analogue collages and drawings which often utilise recycled materials. Her work explores identity, society and themes such as global warming and what it means to be Australian, while seeking to explore and provoke thoughtful conversations through quirky humour and symbolism inspired by advertising, history and politics.

Community members wishing to help the women’s crisis accommodation centre can also make donations of non-perishable food items via the deposit box located at Georges River Civic Centre, Hurstville.

Soupsue’s Who Stood Here exhibition will run until 5 July.
