Containment of Asbestos at Penshurst Library / Olds Park Car Park garden beds

Georges River Council would like to inform the public on actions being taken at Penshurst Library/Olds Park Car Park, Penshurst, following the discovery of fragments of bonded asbestos in garden beds within the car park.

Council has obtained independent scientific advice that has confirmed that there is currently no significant risk of harm to human health or the environment. Temporary fencing has been erected to prevent access to the park while the material is removed and the site is remediated.

Council takes the matter of asbestos very seriously and will continue to work to ensure the material does not pose any risk to the community. Council appreciates the community’s cooperation during this time and asks that residents refrain from accessing the fenced area while the temporary fence remains in place.
