Community Shuttle Bus Service trial to help residents and improve parking

With the support of Georges River Council, St George Community Transport is commencing a trial shuttle bus service which aims to offer more transport options to community members and relieve parking at key locations throughout the local government area.

Assisted by a community grant of $3,250.00 from Council’s Community Grants Program, the service can be accessed by customers who are currently ineligible to receive subsidised transport services, such as young adults and parents.

The aim of the St George Shuttle is to assist people to attend appointments, visit friends or relatives at hospitals, or travel to Westfield Hurstville to shop. The service will transport people to and from key locations including Hurstville and Kogarah Stations.

Additionally, it is hoped that provision of this service will help to alleviate parking at Hurstville and Kogarah Stations, Westfield Hurstville and the St George Hospital.

The St George Shuttle Bus Service is also available to hospital staff and the community at large, and will help people new to the area navigate the public transport options available to them.

Offering transport to the community at the cost of a gold coin donation delivers a greater level of accessibility to people experiencing financial hardship or isolation issues.

If the pilot program is a success, it will support the need to incorporate shuttle services into regular funded transport services.

The service, which will run every 30 minutes, will operate for three weeks from Monday 4 February to Friday 22 February, and will commence at 8.30am and end at 4.00pm each day.

The route will include the following stops:
  • Hurstville Station, Ormonde Parade
  • Westfield Hurstville, Cross Street
  • St George Private Hospital, South Street
  • St George Public Hospital, Kensington Street
  • St George Public Hospital, Gray Street
  • St Patricks Green, Chapel Street
  • Kogarah Station, Railway Parade
