Georges River Council has selected 15 artists to participate in its Artist in Residence Program from 2018-2020. Artists will have the opportunity to develop their artistic skills during their residency at the Carss Park Artist’s Cottage for a period of up to three months.

Council received applications from artists across Australia, with the successful 15 representing a wide range of artistic fields, including creative writing, printmaking, painting, poetry, sketching and photography.

Artists Kassandra Bossell (NSW), Anne So (NSW), Jill Samera (NSW), Elder (NSW), Susan McInerny (NSW), Michael Ambriano (NSW), Dawei Xu (NSW), Helen Amanatiadis (NSW), Emma Davidson (NSW), Sofi Dieu (QLD), Tess Mehonoshen (VIC), Louisa Chircop (NSW), Becky Gibson (ACT), Liz Walker (VIC) and Venessa Possum (QLD) were selected to take part in the Artist in Residence Program.

The Mayor of Georges River Council Kevin Greene praised the artistic skill of the selected artists.

“I congratulate the 15 talented artists that have been selected to participate in Council’s Artist in Residence Program,” said Mayor Greene.

“Selected applicants demonstrated outstanding creativity, an admirable commitment to community engagement and a passion for the natural and urban landscape of the Georges River area.”

“Each artist brings something unique to the program and I look forward to seeing what they achieve and create during their residency at the Carss Park Artist’s Cottage.”

“I am pleased that we can continue to foster and build on cultural development in the Georges River area, to continue to bring diverse cultural experiences to our community through this great initiative.”

The artists will stay at the Carss Park Artist's Cottage, in the former Ranger's lodgings at Carss Park. The cottage, which is located in a picturesque bush park setting on the Georges River, gives artists the chance to focus on their artistic passions in a dedicated studio.

During their residency, artists will have the opportunity to work with Council to develop cultural programs for the benefit of the Georges River Council community and engage with local residents.

The first residency has begun with Kassandra Bossell, who will reside at the Carss Park Artist’s Cottage until early February 2019. Kassandra is a multidisciplinary artist, working in sculpture, installation and public art.

The Georges River Council Artist in Residence Program aims to create opportunities for artists' professional development, and to contribute to Georges River Council's art collection.
