Mayoral Column - United Together for Harmony Week 2026

13/03/2026

Harmony Week is just around the corner, and I’m excited to invite you to join us from 16 to 22 March as we celebrate the cultures and people who make our area so vibrant.

Celebrating Harmony Week and embracing the theme “Everyone belongs” speaks directly to the multicultural identity of our community. Georges River is built on a rich cultural tapestry, and we continue to strive for a place where all residents feel valued, included, and welcome to share their stories.

For me, Harmony Week is a moment to celebrate the diversity of our community and to emphasise the core values in our Social Justice Charter: Participation, Equity, Respect and Empowerment. These values guide our work every day, and they are at the heart of this year’s celebrations. When we listen, share and show respect, we build a community where everyone has a chance to belong.

The highlight of our program is the Harmony Day Cook Up at Carss Bush Park on Saturday 21 March. Lead by Uncle Dean Kelly and Koori Kinnections, this gathering is a great opportunity for our community to connect, learn from First Nations knowledge holders, and celebrate the true meaning of Harmony Day.

We also invite the community to enjoy a range of other Harmony Week activities. Come along to our bilingual Baby Explorers sessions or introductory guitar workshops, available in Greek, Chinese and Spanish. You can also drop into Hurstville Museum & Gallery from 13 to 31 March to enjoy their free colouring station available for all ages.

This week is a chance for all of us to listen, learn, and celebrate the diversity around us. When we share our cultures and experiences, we deepen our understanding and strengthen the unity of our community.
