Mayoral Column - Celebrating a Welcoming Community for All

29/05/2026

June marks Pride Month, a time to celebrate the rich diversity that shapes Georges River. This year’s theme, “Connected in Colour”, is a reminder that strong communities thrive when everyone feels safe, respected and valued regardless of their culture, age, ability, background or identity. All our residents deserve to feel included and supported in the place they live.

At Council, we are proud of the role we play in nurturing this sense of belonging. Our Social Justice Charter shows our strong commitment to ending discrimination. It aims to create a welcoming space for everyone.

We are also proud to support the “Welcome Here Project.” This initiative helps organisations and local businesses build spaces where everyone feels accepted and safe. Everyone has a right to feel safe in everyday places, wherever they live, work or visit.

Pride Month reminds us of the important role we all play in creating an inclusive society. It is a time to celebrate not just identity, but also the community, connection, and shared humanity that defines Georges River.

Thank you to everyone who helps make Georges River a warm and inclusive community. I encourage everyone to reach out, support one another, and build a culture of kindness. Together, we can continue to create a place where everyone has a sense of belonging.
