COVID-19 Recovery Grants

The Georges River Council Recovery Grants program is in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and aims to achieve the following;

  • Provide a structured and strategic program through which funding can be allocated to meet identified community needs caused by the negative impact of the COVID-19 pandemic,
  • Support local businesses to revitalize and diversify, and
  • Support and facilitate the development of a more liveable community and enrich community social capital through targeted and timely support to community organisations.

The Recovery Grants program is based on the existing Policy Principles in Council’s Grants, Donations and Sponsorship Policy.

Council has committed $200,000 across four grant categories. (You can click on the relevant grant category to find out more information).

Support not-for-profit organisations to recover from COVID-19 and assist in delivering community initiatives. The funds are to assist in delivering community initiatives

Cultural Sector Resilience Grant (up to $10,000)

Arts and cultural practitioners and organizations

To provide support to arts and cultural practitioners and organisations who have been financially impacted by the need to cancel or postpone revenue generating events, programs, and other activities as a result of the COVID-19 Pandemic.

  • Open for business

    Objective           
    Support to market and communicate you are ‘Open for business’ 

    Funding available: Up to $5,000

    Criteria              

    •  Your business trading address must be located within the Georges River local government area (LGA).
    •  Must have a relevant and active ABN
    •  Must be registered for GST
    •  Your business has been trading for a period of not less than 12 months
    •  Annual turnover is between $100,000 - $10,000,000
    •  Must be able to provide supporting financial statements to demonstrate that your business has been impacted by COVID-19 by a minimum 30%
    •  All spend to be committed to marketing materials to promote the business
    • Must use an Australian supplier for the purpose of the grant funding, preferably in Georges River LGA
    •  One application per business
    • Grant funds to be spent by no later than 31 December 2020
    • Must register your business on the Georges River Business directory at georgesriverbusiness.com.au
    • Use the hashtag #DiscoverGeorgesRiver in all promotional material
    • Must have no outstanding accounts with Council
     
    Examples of eligible grant expenditure:       
    •    Professional photography
    •    Paid Social Media Ads and or campaigns
    •    Email marketing campaign
    •    In store point of sale (i.e. Posters, in-store leaflets, window dressings etc.)
    •   Printed Marketing Material – includes brochures, business cards, gift vouchers etc.
    •    Digital Marketing Material
     Examples of Ineligible grant expenditure            
    •   Core daily and ongoing operational activities and the payment of already salaried staff,
    •   Activities that have already been undertaken and paid for,
    •   Any use of funds not outlined in the grant
    •   Activities related to the sale or promotion of religious and political activities, alcohol, tobacco, drugs, pornography, and any illegal activity,
    •  Any activity where there is an actual or perceived conflict of interest, it is not in the public's interest, or if it is not in accordance with Council policies and procedures.
    • Supporting documentation required     
    • Copies of financial statements for the April to June quarter for 2019 and the April to June quarter for 2020
    • Copies of quotes from  the service relevant to the grant
     Reporting          
    Successful applicants should report back to Council at the end of the project with:
    •  An outline of what they have achieved;
    •  Some photos, video, media articles or other documentation of the  project;
    • A copy of all receipts for expenditure.
    •  All reports are due to Council by 31 March 2021

      Miscellaneous  
    All applicants agree that if successful in attaining a Grant they may be selected by Council to promote the success of the George River Recovery Grants program. Promotional activities may include but not be limited to:
    •  Social media posts that may include photos and/or a short video
    •  Featuring promotional material on the Georges River Council’s website and on the Georges River Business Directory website
    •  Print material including Council's Community Magazine and press releases in local newspapers


    Applications Open: Monday 10 August
    Applications Close: Sunday 30 August at 11:59pm

    Successful applicants will be notified the week commencing Monday 21 September 2020

    Case Study
    Rasha owns two cafes. One café is located in Carss Park and her other café is located in Bexley. Rasha wants to apply for an “Open for Business Grant” as her trade dropped by 40% for her café in Carss Park and 35% for her Café in Bexley.
     
    Can Rasha apply for a Georges River Recovery Grant on behalf of both Cafes as one business?

    No. Only businesses located in the Georges River area are eligible and therefore only the Carss Park Café is eligible for the “Open for Business Grant or the “Small Business Grant”.

     

  • Small Business Grant

    Objective           
    Support small business and offer the opportunity to adapt and innovate to assist in increasing their capability to strengthen their economic recovery in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

    Funding available: $10,000

    Criteria

    •  Must have a relevant ABN
    •  Must be registered for GST
    • Your business has been trading for a period of not less than 12 months
    •  Annual turnover is between $100,000 - $10,000,000
    • Must be able to provide supporting financial statements to demonstrate that your business has been impacted by COVID-19 by a minimum 30%
    • Must use an Australian based supplier (preferably in the Georges River Local Government Area) – wherever possible
    • Spend the money by no later than 31st December 2020
    • Must register your business on Georges River Business directory at  georgesriverbusiness.com.au
    • Use the hashtag #DiscoverGeorgesRiver in all promotional material
    • Must have no outstanding accounts with Council
      
    Examples of eligible grant expenditure:

    All spend can be committed to a single item or combination of any of the following:
    •  Help build a new website or revitalise an existing website
    •  Develop an online catalogue or sale capability
    •  Purchase of specific and dedicated software (not hardware) to improve online capability
    • Develop an online ordering system and/or service for your product/service
    • Purchase resources and or equipment that allow business to either expand the current operations or diversify a business offering.
    Examples of Ineligible grant expenditure                        
    • Core daily and ongoing operational activities and the payment of already salaried staff,
    • Utilise funds to employ new staff
    • Activities that have already been undertaken and paid for,
    •  Activities related to the sale or promotion of religious and political activities,
    • Alcohol, tobacco, drugs, pornography, and any illegal activity,
    •  Any activity where there is an actual or perceived conflict of interest, it is not in the public's interest, or if it is not in accordance with Council policies and procedures.

  • Community Capacity Building Grant

    Funding available: up to $10,000

    Criteria:

    • Must be a registered not for profit organisation

    • Must have service impacted by COVID-19 by a minimum 30%

    • Demonstration of service provision to community members from within the Georges River LGA

    • All funds to be spent by no later than 31 December 2020

    • Must register your organisation/service on the Georges River Business Directory at georgesriverbusiness.com.au

    • Projects must align with the program’s funding priorities and outcomes

    • Priority given to projects that engage locally based suppliers

    Examples of eligible grant expenditure:

    • Purchase/lease of new equipment

    • Upskill/train staff or volunteers

    • Resources/equipment to enable online learning or connectivity

    • Purchase of resources to address social isolation, digital connection and/or food security within Georges River

    • Promotional and marketing costs

    Supporting documentation:

    • Demonstrated proof of downturn in revenue during COVID-19 restrictions period

    • Proof of not for profit status

    • Copies of quotes from the supplier(s) that will provide the service relevant to the grant

    Reporting:

    Successful applicants should report back to Council at the end of the project with:

    •  An outline of what they have achieved

    •  Some photos, video, media articles or other documentation of the   project

    • A copy of all receipts for expenditure

    • All reports are due to Council by 31 March 2021

    Additional Information:

    All applicants agree that if successful in attaining a Grant you may be selected by Council to promote the success of the George River Recovery Grants program. Promotional activities may include but not be limited to:

    • Use the hashtag #DiscoverGeorgesRiver in all promotional material

    • Priority given to projects that engage locally based suppliers

    Examples of eligible grant expenditure:

    • Development of new work to be showcased within the Georges River LGA

    • Presentation of new work to be showcased within the Georges River LGA

    • Development of new operating models to create or connect with new audiences

    • Purchase/lease of new equipment

    • Upskill/train artists/practitioners

    • Promotional and marketing costs.

    Supporting Documentation:

    • Demonstrated proof of downturn in revenue during COVID-19 restrictions period

    • Proof of not for profit or sole trader status (if applicable)

    • Copies of quotes from third party Australian supplier(s) that will provide the service relevant to the grant

    Reporting:

    Successful applicants should report back to Council at the end of the project with:
