National Science Week - Forensic genetic genealogy via Zoom

17/08/2020 -

Online via ZOOM

Join Professor Dennis McNevin as we discover how forensic genetic genealogy has the potential to solve a multitude of crimes.

The so called Golden State Killer, Joseph James DeAngelo, has recently pleaded guilty to a string of murders and sexual assaults committed in California in the 1970s and 1980s.
He was eventually brought to justice because forensic investigators used a new technique called forensic genetic genealogy. It is highly likely he would have evaded responsibility without it.

If you have subscribed to a genetic ancestry service, your DNA might be used to solve crimes like this on the other side of the world.
