Reconciliation Week

National Reconciliation Week is recognised annually from 27 May to 3 June.

It aims to foster positive relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and the broader community.

In these times, it remains important that we continue to connect with each other and celebrate the contribution of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in our community. We are all #InThisTogether.

This special online program is presented in partnership with the Georges River Council Aboriginal Reference Group and consists of three components.

1. 'In this together' - A video produced by Shannon Foster

We are proud to celebrate National Reconciliation Week this year with D’harawal Saltwater Knowledge Keeper and local Traditional Owner, Shannon Foster. Shannon in her  recent video “Yana’o Kai’eemagh” (walking on Georges River Country)  takes viewers on a walk to explore the Georges River as she shares the stories, knowledges, plants and animals that belong to the Country of this beautiful stretch of water.

2. A Webinar with Shannon Foster

We will host Shannon via a webinar session so she can answer questions and have a yarn about her family, culture and her recent video “Yana’o Kai’eemagh” (walking on Georges River Country).

When: Thursday 4 June 2020 from 3.00pm-4.00pm

3. Walking Together

Walking Together was made to celebrate National Reconciliation Week 2019, exploring the theme Grounded in Truth: Walk Together in Courage.

The documentary features the stories of friendship and respectful relationships between three amazing local people: Aboriginal Elder Aunty Annette Webb, Ms Lorraine Watson and Dr Ian Shearer. Reconciliation is part of their story and future. It lives in their hearts, minds and their actions.
