In recent years the Georges River LGA resident population has increased steadily from 110,000 people in 1991 to over 158,411 people in 2018 (Australian Bureau of Statistics - Estimated Residential Population).
From 2011 to 2016, Georges River Council area's population increased by 12,173 people (9.0%). This represents an average annual population change of 1.75% per year over the period.
The largest changes in the age structure in this area between 2011 and 2016 were in the age groups:

At the 2016 Census 45.5% of people in Georges River were born overseas with the top five countries being China, Nepal, Hong Kong, United Kingdom and Greece.
54% of the population speaks a language other than English at home.
At the 2016 Census 30.2% of the resident population stated that they had a Bachelor or Higher Qualifications, 9.7% had Diplomas or Advanced Diplomas and 13% of the population had trade qualifications.
31% of the resident population uses public transport to commute to work.
