In recent years the Georges River LGA  resident population has increased steadily from 110,000 people in 1991 to over 153,055 people in 2022 (Australian Bureau of Statistics - Estimated Residential Population).

From 2016 to 2021, Georges River Council area's population decreased slightly by 458 people (-0.3%). 

The largest changes in the age structure in this area between 2016 and 2021 were in the age groups:

• Seniors (70 to 84) (+2,414 people).

• Empty nesters and retirees (60 to 69) (+2,252 people).

• Parents and homebuilders (35 to 49) (+1,501 people).

• Babies and pre-schoolers (0 to 4) (-924 people).

At the 2021 Census 46% of people in Georges River were born overseas with the top five countries being China, Nepal, Hong Kong, Philippines and Greece.

56.3% of the population speaks a language other than English at home. 

At the 2021 Census 34.1% of the resident population stated that they had a Bachelor or Higher Qualifications, 10.5% had Diplomas or Advanced Diplomas and 14.8% of the population had trade qualifications.

10.2% of the resident population uses public transport to commute to work.

36.6% of residents worked from home.
