Gross Regional Product (GRP)

As at June 2018 the Gross Regional Product of Georges River was $7.8 billion, an increase of 2.8% on the previous year.

The top five most productive industries in the area are:

  • Finance - $1.450 billion

  • Health care and social assistance - $980 million

  • Professional and technical services - $448 million

  • Construction - $372 million

  • Retail trade - $346 million

Local Businesses – the cornerstone of the local economy

As at 2018 there were 17,148 businesses in the Georges River area.

The top three business sectors were:
  • Construction, rental, hiring and real estate services

  • Professional services

  • Scientific and technical services.

Local Jobs – building on local jobs for local people for a local lifestyle

As at 2018 there were 55,946 local jobs in the LGA with the top three employment sectors being Health Care and Social Assistance, Retail Trade and Education and Training.
Of these local jobs 42,700, or 76%, were full time. 

At the 2016 census 37% of these jobs were occupied by people who lived in the Georges River LGA. 
 

Housing

In the Georges River LGA, 63% of households were purchasing or fully owned their home, 27.5% of households were in the private rental market and 2.9% were in social housing.
 

Additional Homes

In the 2018/19 financial year to date there have been 428 residential building approvals.
