Kogarah Health, Education and Innovation Precinct
Located 14km from the Sydney CBD and 9km from Sydney Airport, Kogarah is a centre of medical expertise within the Georges River Council local government area. The area is supported by leading public and private hospitals, a presence from the UNSW, as well as a major TAFE campus. Kogarah also hosts a mixture of retail and commercial activities and boasts a finance and insurance tradition.
The Greater Sydney Region Plan – A Metropolis of Three Cities identifies Kogarah as a strategic centre, a health and education precinct and a Collaboration Area. Georges River Council’s Kogarah Investment Attraction Strategy aims to drive the economic development of the current health and education precinct by identifying the opportunities for Council to attract further business and investment, foster innovation and build long lasting strategic partnerships to support the area’s existing and future jobs.
Building on Kogarah’s existing strengths and areas of specialisation which sets it apart from other health and education precincts, the draft strategy presents a fact-based narrative for Kogarah as a precinct for ‘Four R’s’. The Four R’s will act as the pillars to build the foundation of a Kogarah Health, Innovation and Education Precinct (HEIP).

Kogarah Collaboration Area
Kogarah is a strategic centre and dual Council Collaboration Area. Shared across the Eastern City and South Districts its success as a centre is important in achieving the 30-minute city. Future Transport 2056 identifies several mass transit routes that will connect Kogarah to other areas in Greater Sydney.
The Collaboration area is anchored by St George and Calvary Public Hospitals, St George and Wesley Private Hospitals, the UNSW St George and Sutherland Clinical School and St George TAFE Campus and is near to the Sydney Airport and Port Botany. Together, these contribute to the creation of knowledge intensive jobs for Greater Sydney.
The Kogarah Collaboration Area Place Strategy was co-designed by the Greater Sydney Commission and the Kogarah Collaboration Area Stakeholder Group between December 2018 and December 2019. The Strategy was approved by the Greater Sydney Commission in December 2019.
The Place Strategy identifies a vision and shared objectives for the place and sets out priorities and actions to realise this vision. Some actions are identified as immediate imperatives in order to focus the efforts of the local partners. The actions and immediate imperatives are dynamic and are subject to change as the Governance Group for each area is established and work is completed.
