Swooping Magpies

Some Australian Magpies are known to swoop pedestrians and cyclists in the area of their nest to protect their young. Georges River Council has prepared this Magpie Factsheet to provide information on Magpies and tips to avoid being swooped. Council is also preparing a Magpie Map to add to our Neighbourhood Maps portal.

Please note that it is an offence to harm a native animal under the NSW Biodiversity Conservation Act 2016 so Council does not consider removing swooping magpies.

The Georges River area has a wide range of outdoor recreational spaces which enhance the wellbeing of our residents and visitors. The outdoor spaces include parks, playgrounds, cycleways, skate parks, sporting fields, aquatic centres, dog off-leash areas, tennis clubs and golf courses.

The Neighbourhood Maps portal contains a variety of useful information presented on an interactive map. This includes the many cycling and walking routes throughout the Georges River area.
