Companion Animals

Council Rangers provide education to the community regarding their responsibilities for the ownership of companion animals.

Rangers investigate issues such as:

  • Attacks
  • Unreasonable aggression
  • Unattended dogs
  • Dogs and cats in prohibited areas
  • Barking dogs
  • Dogs and cats causing a nuisance

All dogs and cats must be microchipped prior to a change of ownership or before the animal is twelve weeks old, whichever comes first and registered with Council at six months of age. Registration of a companion animals must be completed once they have been microchipped. Regulatory action may be taken where an animal has not been correctly identified.
