Draft Guidelines for Places of Public Worship within the Georges River Local Government Area

Community and religious groups play an important role in providing social support for the community. Consultation with our community has identified potential issues in relation to places of public worship and their impact on the amenity of neighbourhoods.

To address these potential issues, Council prepared draft guidelines for places of public worship within the Georges River LGA. These guidelines were considered by Council at its meeting on 1 May 2017 where Council resolved to place them on public exhibition to seek community feedback, including feedback from representatives of interested groups and places of public worship within the Georges River LGA. These draft guidelines were placed on public exhibition from June to October 2017.

A copy of the Council report and exhibited draft guidelines for places of public worship within the Georges River LGA can be downloaded from the links below.

There was significant community interest in the draft guidelines and the submissions were presented to the Councillors in a series of workshops in 2018. Council staff are currently reviewing the draft guidelines with the intention to develop planning controls that will be incorporated into a future amendment to the development control plans.
