Heritage items are those things identified as having heritage significance for a community that need to be treasured for future generations. They are things which have survived from an earlier time and show how an area has grown and developed and captures the distinctive identity of a local area. Georges River Council has several programs in place to ensure our heritage is preserved.

Heritage Advisory Service

Council offers an advisory service for heritage properties. We can provide heritage advice on maintenance, restoration and development proposals and will make site visits to help you make the best decisions about your heritage property and its management. This is a free service is available to heritage owners. Contact Council’s strategic planning unit on 9330 6400.

Heritage Works Without Consent

To make it easier to maintain and repair heritage properties certain development may be carried out without the need for development consent.

Heritage Grant program

Council’s Heritage Grants program offers financial support to conserve heritage listed buildings or funding to support the initiation of a heritage project.

Who can I talk to?

General heritage enquiries and development applications which have heritage issues are referred to Council's Heritage Advisor. However, initial development advice should be obtained by speaking to the Duty Planner by phoning Customer Service on 9330 6400.
