Rates and Rebates

Georges River Council rates are used to fund essential local services and facilities including road, parks and garden maintenance, libraries, and community services for senior citizens, young people and children.

In addition, rates allow Council to support and organise cultural activities and festivals for the community.

What's new about rates?

As of Monday 25 July 2016, Georges River Council ratepayers will have the choice of paying their rates at either the Hurstville or Kogarah Customer Service Centres. This is irrespective of whether their land was located under the former Hurstville or Kogarah local government areas. Payments for Sundry Debtors will also be accepted at either Service Centre from Monday 25 July 2016.

Customer Service Centres are located at:

  • 2 Belgrave Street Kogarah: Monday to Friday 8.30am-5.00pm
  • MacMahon and Dora Streets Hurstville: Monday to Friday 8.30am-5.00pm

Georges River Council is continuously working to expand the range of services and transactions available at either Service Centre for the benefit of the Georges River community.

Rates calculation

Rates are calculated based on the land value of your property as supplied by the Land and Property Information (LPI). If you own a strata title property, the land value of the entire site is divided by the unit entitlement (listed on your strata plan), to ascertain the land value for each unit.  For more information on the supply of land values go to: http://www.lpi.nsw.gov.au/
