What Documents my be Withheld?

Under the GIPA Act, people have rights to information they request through a formal access application, unless there is an overriding public interest against disclosure, or if the information is listed as ‘excluded information’ under the Act.

Examples of some documents that are not permitted to be released are internal working plans of another individual's property, Council's own legal advice, or commercial information, which if released, may reveal a trade secret.  Also, another person's personal information is restricted under the Privacy and Personal Information Protection Act 1998.
