Motorised Scooters and Wheelchairs

A motorised wheelchair is a mobility aid with two or more wheels and a maximum speed of 10km/hr on level ground. These devices assist people with difficulty walking. People using such a device are defined as pedestrians under the NSW Road Rules.

Safety Information for scooters

  • Travel on the footpath wherever possible: "A motorised wheelchair must not travel along the road unless it is impractical to travel along the footpath or nature strip next to the road." - NSW Road Rules
  • Attach a safety flag to your wheelchair so it is above your head for good visibility
  • Be courteous to and careful of pedestrians, particularly children and seniors
  • ‚ÄčDrive at walking pace and give pedestrians plenty of space.
