Thursday, 26 January 2017
10.00am – 9.00pm
Carss Bush Park, Carwar Ave, Carss Park
Come along to Carss Bush Park on the foreshore of Kogarah Bay this Australia Day and enjoy one of Sydney’s most popular and vibrant celebrations of our national identity.
For over 25 years this event has been the platform for a dynamic entertainment program which showcases great live music, diverse cultural performances, amusing entertainers and market stallholders selling clothing, novelties, crafts and food from around the world. The peak of the event is reached at 9.00pm with a brilliant display of fireworks over Kogarah Bay which is enjoyed by event goers as well as Sydney-siders across our city’s southern suburbs. Families and friends gather in their tens of thousands to this beautiful venue to enjoy the Australia Day Celebrations.
This event is generously supported onsite by Kogarah State Emergency Service, St John Ambulance, NSW Fire Brigade and the NSW Police St George Local Area Command.
Market stalls open for breakfast trade at 10.00am. The stage formalities begin at 11:00am with a Citizenship Ceremony for 70 new Australians. This section of the day also includes a traditional ‘Acknowledgement of Country’, Official Opening by the Administrator of Georges River Council, a beautiful performance of the Australian National Anthem by Endeavour Harmony Chorus and the announcement of the Georges River 2017 Citizen of the Year and Australia Day Ambassador.
The Australia Day event program consists of terrific children’s entertainment including the Snoopy and Friends Live Action Show, the Hoot and Hootabelle Live Action Show. There will also be live bands including The Party Agents and Matchbox Rock and Roll Band. The Australia Day event also features community performers dedicated to dance and song styles from all over the world.
Other activities include a 7D Interactive Mobile Cinema, tours of the Carss Park Cottage Museum (between 12.00pm and 6.00pm) and amusement rides, at very reasonable prices, all day.
