The Georges River Council Local Government Area is home to many arts and cultural organisations; some new, some long-established. These active groups in the community participate in various forms of art and cultural activity – including music, photography, art, writing, local history, language and dance – and play an important role in the lives of many people.
The St George Arts and Cultural Network Forum is a recently formed joint initiative of Georges River Council and the Bayside Council, which aims to connect artists, share information and resources and to promote the diversity of cultural activities in our region.
The Network meets twice-yearly with activities and programs designed to connect artists, share information and resources and promote the diversity of cultural activities across the region.
The last St George Arts and Culture Network Forum focused on visual arts and also launched Council’s inaugural Discovery Festival. This event was held at Kogarah Library and Cultural Centre on Friday 7 October.
Speakers at the forum included: Cigdem Aydemir, from the National Association of the Visual Arts (NAVA); and Dr Bob Jansen, whose projects, in collaboration with his wife, artist Yvonne Boag, include Rockdale’s Turtle Lane Studios, artist in residence programs and Cultural Conversations – a living archive of cross cultural exchange between Australian and South Korean visual artists. The evening concluded with an Artists’ Salon inviting local artists and performers to share their work with each other.
The St George Arts and Cultural Network Forum is free and registrations are now open.
