Baby explorers

Join a tour of the current Main Gallery exhibition, Georges River Art prize, with your little one. 

A special sensory pit of soft and textured materials, interesting sounds, colours and shapes will also be available for your baby to explore.

Art in the afternoon: express yourself

Join us on the second Sunday of the month to explore your creative side. Experience mindful approaches to artmaking and try new techniques and mediums as you express yourself and enhance your wellbeing. Find your voice while you paint, sculpt and cultivate creativity. These sessions are ideal for participants seeking to connect with themselves, their creativity and community. 

No previous experience required and all are welcome. All materials are provided. Although participants are encouraged to source found materials for their unique creations.

•   Express yourself - paint: Sunday 12 November 2023, 2.30pm - 4.30pm. This event has passed.

Clay sculpture workshop: make a torso

Enjoy a relaxing fine art experience and learn how to sculpt a human torso with artist, Irina.

The session will start by looking at torso sculptures and images with the artist. Your teacher, Irina, is a Master of Fine Arts Sculptor whose sculptures will be there for guidance, along with reference photographs.
 
Participants will receive a wooden armature fixed on a wooden stand to provide the basic proportions of their sculptures.

*Note: There will not be a life model at this session. No previous experience required.

Life drawing 

Join us for a two-hour life drawing class at Hurstville Museum & Gallery with an experienced model and facilitator.

Learn the fundamentals of life drawing with Rod from St George Art Society, who will teach you the principles of life drawing in a relaxed and supportive environment. Our model will strike various poses, allowing you to practice your skills. Please note, there will be no nudity in this class.
 
Suitable for all levels, from beginners looking to explore art to experienced artists honing their craft. We will provide all the necessary art supplies, but feel free to bring your own if you prefer a personal touch.

Cyanotype workshop     

Create contemporary cyanotype prints with artist Marina Mavritsky. 

Be inspired by the Georges River Art Prize and learn the traditional technique of cyanotype printing on fabric to create your own unique artwork.

The afternoon will start with artist Marina Mavritsky explaining her artmaking process. Then, using the exhibition and surrounds as inspiration, participants will learn the art of traditional cyanotype printing using hand drawn negatives and found objects. 

Participants are encouraged to bring in objects and images which can be used as further inspiration for this unique artmaking process.

Special reminiscing session

Reminiscence therapy is an activity that involves the active recollection of life experiences. It allows individuals to relive positive personal events from their past in a way that is vivid and engaging and encourages them to communicate those experiences to a listener.

In a comfortable and relaxed forum, this special program has been designed to meet the needs of seniors, nursing homes, organised groups and day care centres. Combining reminiscence therapy and art, join us for a 45 minute session where participants can handle objects and share memories with other members of the group and will be encouraged to draw an item that sparks positive memories, to take home a new tangible memory.
